Overview

Located in Officer, Victoria, Pilawoos Melbourne brings a genuine taste of Sri Lanka to Australia’s vibrant food scene. Nestled along Princes Highway, this restaurant quickly establishes itself as a destination for lovers of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, particularly those craving staples like koththu roti and roti with rich, flavorful curries.

The heart of Pilawoos Melbourne lies in its koththu offerings — shredded roti stir-fried with tender meats, fresh vegetables, and a complex blend of traditional Sri Lankan spices. The Classic Lamb and Cheese Lamb Masala koththu stand out, receiving consistent praise for their hearty, bold flavors and generous portions. For those seeking a lighter yet equally satisfying experience, the shawarma and roti paired with either chicken or lamb curry provide a delightful alternative, showcasing the depth of Sri Lankan comfort food.

From a dining perspective, the experience at Pilawoos Melbourne is vibrant and warm, though early visitors have noted some teething issues with service speed and order accuracy, especially on busy nights. The staff’s responsiveness to correct such hiccups reflects a commitment to customer satisfaction that promises smoother service as they settle in. The atmosphere suits a diverse crowd from families to solo diners and groups looking to explore something different yet familiar through flavors.

Beverage choices like the refreshing lime juice and iced Milo echo authentic Sri Lankan refreshments, complementing the spicy and savory dishes well. While some customers have suggested that spice levels could be adjusted for a stronger kick, the overall flavor profile remains true and satisfying, inviting repeat visits.

In summary, Pilawoos Melbourne stands out for its authentic Sri Lankan culinary craftsmanship, generous servings, and a welcoming space that embraces both newcomers to the cuisine and those nostalgic for home flavors. It’s a promising addition to the Melbourne-area food landscape that will appeal to anyone eager to explore traditional Sri Lankan dishes in a casual, approachable setting.

I visited on opening night, and as expected, the place was quite busy and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the demand. We ordered three Iced Milos, Chicken Kottu, Cheese Lamb Masala Kottu, and an Egg Godamba Roti with Chicken Curry for takeaway. The wait was longer than expected - over an hour, with no communication - including for the Iced Milos. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up in the order. Instead of the Cheese Lamb Kottu, we got two Chicken Kottus, and the Godamba Roti with Chicken Curry was initially served on a plate instead of in a takeaway container, which the staff quickly corrected. That said, the food itself was flavourful and tasty. The only downside was that it could have used a bit more spice and kick. Considering it was the opening night, I understand the delays, and despite the hiccups, I am looking forward to coming back and giving it another try. Will definitely return and recommend others to try it too once they have settled into a smoother routine!

The most delicious koththu in Melbourne. Best selling masala cheese koththu really hits the spot and the business owner gives the best service in the whole food truck park. Generous portions. Highly recommended.

The food here is absolutely amazing and full of authentic Sri Lankan flavors! I ordered Koththu and other dishes, and everything was so tasty. The lime juice, especially, stood out it had a perfect, refreshing Sri Lankan taste that brought back great memories. Highly recommend this spot! Keep up the same taste and quality you're doing an excellent job! Regards Krishan

We tried the chicken kottu and iced Milo.. Chicken kottu was flavourful and spicy to our liking. Had enough gravy mixed which made it even more delicious. Iced Milo was good but could improve in flavour.
